PCOC, VHF Radio and Harbour License Courses

Pleasure Craft Operators Card (PCOC)

2 Hours (exam only) / $55 + HST
$45 for THNC students and members.

Government legislation requires that all operators of any power-driven vessel – even a Personal Water Craft (PWC) – obtain a Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC). Textbooks are available for an additional cost.

You can write the exam any time our office is open. Contact the office at (416) 203-3000 or thncinfo@torontoharbournauticalcentre.com, or visit us at 275 Queens Quay West to arrange your exam time; then pay online!

Once you have successfully obtained your PCOC, you must carry it with you at all times while operating a power-driven vessel or sailboat with an engine (like a driver’s license). If you are renting a power boat from us, our Rental Boat Safety Checklist must be completed before embarking. If you have completed Sail Canada Basic Cruising or Basic Power, your signed logbook is equivalent to a PCOC, and you must carry it while on the water. If you would like a PCOC, you can purchase the card for $25 - without writing the exam!

VHF-DSC Radio License

6 Hours / $225 + HST

Learn to communicate on the VHF marine radio with Digital Selective Calling (DSC) and receive your Restricted Operator’s Card (Maritime) – (ROC-M).

Toronto Harbour License

3 Hours / $160 + HST

To operate any power-driven vessel in Toronto Harbour, you must have a Harbour License. This course will give you the theoretical knowledge you need to be successful and includes a written and practical test.

Previous powerboating experience is recommended
